Conclusion


This project has taught me a lot about robotics. Did you know the word robot comes from the word “robota” which means hard labor? Robotics has a very important role in our modern world. I think the future of robots is bright and they will succeed in this division. Robots are now working for people in industries, factories, warehouses, and laboratories. Some workers are working harder and being more competitive so they are not the ones losing their jobs to a robot.  You can create robots to do so many different tasks. Companies with robots are outworking and are superior to other companies who do not have robots working for them, Clean your house, do surgery, help the disabled, and even brush your teeth. Robots boost our economy though because companies can do tasks faster and get more done to keep up. Robots are even cutting hair now! Even though this is a big advance in robotics, I'm not sure how close I would want a robot with scissors to my hair! As long as we don't get to worldly and caught up in robots, I think they are a good invention. The first robot was made in the spring of 1961. This robot was working in an assembly line at General Motors. Overall, I now know a lot more about robotics than I did at the beginning of this project. I know realize how big of an effect robots have on our life, negatively and positively. Robots are about the closest thing to perfect because they are more precise than humans and make fewer errors than us. But really, even robots break or make an error like once. I really like the advances in robotics and stuff, but I do not our world to be run by a bunch of robots, who does? Well, I hope you learned something from this project, because I did!

I did not know how helpful medical robots were in the medical field. Robots are helpful in the medical field by dealing with diagnosis, surgery, and helping the patients come back to health. The most important thing robots can do in the medical field is more accurate and safer diagnosing.  Some patients have incorrect diagnosing from doctors and they end up having more problems. Some of these robots have saved people's lives and made their lives a whole lot easier. From helping disabled patients to performing surgery, these robots are a big help in the medical field. Other robots bring you food to your hospital room or stay with you to make sure you do not fall and they can contact someone.  As I've said many times in the report, robots have had a huge impact on recovery time and have minimized the cost. Within our lifetime, robots will be doing a bunch of things we didn’t even know where possible.

I also did not realize how many people lost their jobs because of robots. Robots can do a task faster and with fewer errors, but some tasks are better for humans to do. I think the future of robots will have a good impact on our world, but I do not think people should be getting fired because a robot is taking their job. I cannot imagine one of my parents coming home and telling me they lost their job to a robot. Sometimes robots can free up nurses so they are not so overwhelmed with work and can help more patients. I hope we can use robots more in the future but it is terrible if robots are taking over everyone’s work. The most likely jobs to lose to robots are pharmacists, lawyers, drivers, astronauts, store clerks, soldiers, babysitters, rescuers, and sportswriters. It is crazy to think that robots can be babysitting your kids one day.

Lastly, I had no idea how many different robots there were for medical purposes. The simplest robot is pretty much a stuffed animal to comfort the patients, but it has a big part. The uses for medical robots are endless.  The medical field always has room for improvement. I think sometimes people get too caught up in what the newest thing out is, but robots can also be very beneficial. To me, medical robots are the most important robots. Some of them save people’s lives. Prosthetics is a type of robot where some parts of the human body are replaced with robots. A care robot is simply a robot that takes care of people. An important task of the care robots is to make sure you are taking your medicine on time. Surgical robots perform surgery by mimicking the doctor’s hand movements. Medical robots are considered one of the best things that have happened in the medical field.

ZEUS Robotical Surgical Robot is a robot that assists in surgery. ZEUS has three robotic hands that are operated by the doctor. One of the hands is a voice-operated endoscope and lets the doctor see inside the person’s body to get a better idea and get a clearer picture of what he is doing. The other two hands are copying directly what the surgeon is doing.

 
 
 
 
 
The PARO robot looks like a white baby seal. The robot is supposed to comfort patients in the hospital and in nursing homes. The robot is made to be very cute and to have a calming effect on the patient. The seal has sensors and responds when people pet it by opening and closing its eyes. The seal can even learn its name. The seal goes to sleep at night time.
 

 
 
Wakamaru is a Japanese robot. The robot provides companionship to old and disabled people. The robot has a circular base and it yellow. They went on sale in September 2005 for $14,000. The robot can speak in male or female voices. It also gives people medicine on time and calls for help it if suspects something is wrong.  
 

 
 
 
 
Sofie is a surgeon robot. The robot lets the doctor feels the pressure he is using. The robot is mounted on the operating table. The robots make smaller incisions and help the doctor have a more successful surgery.

In today’s high tech society, robots are becoming more popular and are becoming very useful. However, there may be a down side to this modern technology because people are being replaced by robots and they are taking over their job.  Robots are becoming smarter than people and make lesser mistakes than people. Robots reduce the human error are work faster. They never get bored or tired which is a plus.  There will be over a million robots by the year 2013. One of the most important fields for robots is the medical field. Robots can do some things that humans cannot.   Jobs like groomers and waiters will not be taken over by robots, but they will be filling prescriptions and doing business over the phone. Robots will probably not run our country, but will make some jobs easier, even if people do lose their jobs. 

The medical field is using robots more and more. Robots are helping dementia patients, performing surgery, and in the long term they will help patients to go home sooner.  Some examples of items used in the medical field are Da Vinci Si HD Surgical System, Nursebot, and RIBA. Da Vinci Si HD Surgical System copies what the doctor is doing but with more precision. The incisions are smaller, which cuts down on the cost and the hospital stay. The nursebot assist people living at home or in the hospital due to a lack of nurses. RIBA lifts people who are too weak and cannot stand up on their own or are disabled. The PillBot is a machine with a tiny camera. When you swallow the camera pill, the doctors can see what is going on in your body. They have tiny hands attached to the camera to attach to your insides. They even have robots that clean the patients’ room, and carries utensils and trays from place to place. This website will explore the advantages and disadvantages of robotics. The robots take blood test and can diagnose people’s illnesses more accurate than humans.  Overall, the world could benefit greatly with these new advances in robotics because they are helping to eliminate human error.
